Stabilization and Recovery Support to Communities Affected by Gedeo-West Guji Displacement

Risk Reduction & Rehabilitation

In Ethiopia, a large number of people were displaced in the first half of 2018, and this was primarily associated with an outbreak of an intercommunal conflict in West Guji and Gedeo, along the border between Oromia and SNNPR regions. In the beginning of May 2018, the initial outbreak of violence provoked the displacement of approximately 240,000 persons in Gedeo Zone. At the time, the government and the traditional leaders managed to stem the violence and managed to encourage the return some IDPs.
