Stabilization and Recovery Support for Communities Affected by Gedeo-West Guji Intercommunal Conflict and Displacement

Risk Reduction & Rehabilitation

The ‘Stabilization and Recovery Support for Communities Affected by Gedeo-West Guji Displacement’ has been under implementation since 2019. This project was designed to support the livelihood recovery and peacebuilding efforts in Gedeo and West Guji Zones of Ethiopia. In 2019, through the generous support of Denmark Government, the project constructed 2104 durable and good quality houses using low-cost, simple technologies, and prioritizing the most vulnerable IDPs who did not have resources to reconstruct themselves. During the same period, the project distributed improved crop seeds to 2400 smallholder farmers, and basic farming tools such as hoes and axes to 3000 farmers to help them start their livelihoods. On the other hand, 60 cooperatives were established and supported with seed money and started various businesses, while 36 women self-help groups (each with 15 members) received startup grants for animal fattening, poultry production and petty trade, among other activities.
