This project has been under implementation since 2019 with the overall objective of ensuring recovery with resilience for conflict-displaced communities in Gedeo and West Guji areas and laying the foundation for long-term peace and stability by restoring assets and livelihoods, rehabilitating critical infrastructures and strengthening community-managed peacebuilding efforts. In the past two years (in 2019 and 2020), the most vulnerable households were targeted, and many results were achieved.
In 2021, impacts of disasters (such as COVID-19, desert locust (DL) and flooding) were assessed, communities’ needs were identified, and the most vulnerable individuals were targeted and supported by the project. A total of 4127 farmers (2950 M and 1177 F), who were the most affected and the least to recover with their own capacity or resource, were identified and supported with agricultural inputs. The support enabled farmers to resume crop production and expect good produce that would improve their food security situation. In 2021, 965 women were organized into 85 women micro and small enterprises (MSEs) and started generating income and supporting their family from local businesses such as animal fattening, sheep production, kocho1 trade among others. On the other hand, 97 health posts in the project areas were supported with PPE and other health materials, which enhanced their capacity in COVID-19 prevention and response in rural areas.
